🔹 Genitiv – The Possessive Case

📘 What it means:

The Genitive shows possession — it answers the question "Whose?"

English German

The book of the man Das Buch des Mannes

The car of my mother Das Auto meiner Mutter

🧠 The 3 Most Important Genitive Rules (A2 Level):

1. Masculine & Neuter nouns get -s or -es in Genitive.

→ des Mannes (of the man)

→ des Kindes (of the child)

2. Feminine & Plural nouns do not change.

→ der Frau (of the woman)

→ der Eltern (of the parents)

3. Genitive replaces "von" + Dative in formal/written German.

→ Das Auto von meinem Vater (colloquial)

→ Das Auto meines Vaters (formal/Genitive)
