ch 7-9
Chapter 7 – Salamander
Ender is transferred to Salamander Army, led by the aggressive and arrogant Bonzo Madrid.
Bonzo orders Ender not to participate in battles, seeing him as weak and untrained.
Despite being benched, Ender secretly trains during his free time with Petra Arkanian, a girl from Salamander who befriends him and teaches him how to shoot.
Ender also continues to run practice sessions with younger Launchies, developing leadership skills and strategies.
He begins learning how to move in zero-gravity and perfects new tactics, starting to become a better soldier even without official practice.
During a battle, Ender disobeys Bonzo’s orders and helps the team win. Bonzo is furious, which causes tension between them.
Chapter 8 – Rat
Ender is transferred to Rat Army, under Rose the Nose, who doesn’t like Ender but tolerates him because he’s effective.
Dink Meeker, Ender’s toon leader, respects Ender’s intelligence and allows him freedom during battles.
Dink warns Ender about the manipulative nature of the Battle School and says the real enemy might be the adults, not the aliens.
Ender sees that the school is pushing him harder and isolating him, which is intentional.
Ender continues training with his Launchie friends during free time, and they are getting better under his guidance.
He starts having more violent dreams, which shows how much pressure and internal conflict he's dealing with.
Chapter 9 – Locke and Demosthenes
Focus shifts back to Valentine, Ender’s sister, on Earth. She misses Ender and is worried about Peter, their older brother.
Peter convinces Valentine to help him influence world politics by writing under fake identities on the internet: Peter becomes “Locke”, and Valentine becomes “Demosthenes.”
Their writings gain attention and political influence, showing Peter’s ambition and manipulation skills.
Back in Battle School, Ender feels increasingly isolated, realizing he’s being set up as a leader.
Graff visits Valentine, asking her to write a letter to motivate Ender, knowing that she’s the only person he truly trusts.
Ender reads the letter and realizes it was manipulated by the adults, which makes him feel even more alone and distrustful.
