Characteristics:
Photosensitive: should be protected from light to maintain efficacy.
2. Clioquinol (C9H5ClINO)
Brand Name: Vioform®
Alternative Name: Also known as Iodochlorhydroxyquin
History: Initially used as a substitute for iodoform, reflecting its antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Formulations (P): Available as a powder for skin conditions (AEPI) such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and impetigo.
Other Forms (OC3): Available as an ointment and cream (3%).
Indications:
Effectively used vaginally for the treatment of vaginitis.
Best use for treating athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) and jock itch (tinea cruris), demonstrating its antifungal activity in localized infections.
3. Ciclopirox olamine (C14H24N2O3)
Brand Name: Loprox®
Alternative Names: Also known as Ciclopirox ethanolamine and Ciclopiroxolamine.
Mechanism of Action (MOA):
At low concentrations (FS): Exhibits fungistatic properties which block the transport of amino acids into fungal cells, inhibiting growth.
At high concentrations (FC): Exhibits fungicidal properties, causing loss of membrane integrity and disrupting cellular constituents.

Cutaneous candidiasis
Tinea corporis (whole body)
Tinea cruris (groin; jock itch)
Tinea pedis (feet; athlete’s foot)
Tinea versicolor (discolored skin patches).
Considered a second-line agent for the treatment of onychomycosis or tinea unguium (fungal infection of the nail).
Formulations (CL1): Available as cream and lotion (1%), allowing for easy application on affected areas and improving patient compliance.
