Contraception and family planning
Contraception - The methods used to prevent a pregnancy from taking place
Family planning - Controlling how many children couples have and when they have them
Christians believe that a baby become a human being at contraception. Some Christians believe therefore that stuff like the morning after pill is murder as the baby is already alive at contraception.
“Thou shall not kill.”
In contemporary Britain, contraception is very widely approved and promoted.
Arguments for contraception:
Allows young people to experience pleasure without commitment
Allows people to have sex without worrying about consequences
Prevents the spread of STDs
Allows married couples to decide when to have children
Prevents unwanted pregnancies
Helps prevent overpopulation
Married couples might not be able to support/want kids
Through marriage, spouses enrich one another’s lives through union in love, and so that their mutual love might give rise to new life. This is expressed in the book of Genesis by Adam who, upon seeing Eve, said “At last this one is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh”; and our understanding of marriage is enriched further by God’s first commandment.
