Middle Course

Main fluvial process is transportation. Not as much erosion as there is less GPE, and not much deposition as the river still has a decent amount of energy

Meanders

Meanders are bends in rivers.

Water in rivers flow in a corkscrew pattern (helical flow). The helical flow sends the waters energy to the sides of the river ( lateral erosion).

The current is fastest on the outside, meaning the river erodes more in these areas due to higher energy. On the inside bend the water flows slowly, loses energy and deposits material. This makes the meander.

Oxbow Lakes

An oxbow lake is the result of two meanders eroding and eventually joining to create a new channel. The river usually breaks to create the new channel during a flood. Deposition eventually cuts off the meander, forming an oxbow lake.
