  • can affect other organs in the body like the kidney, brain, and spine

    • kidney- cause holes and scars which leads to blood in urine

    • brain- meningitis

    • spine- potts disease

slide 2 etiological agent

  • when you stain the bacteria under a microscope because it is too small to see so they add an acid washed dye to see it more clearly

  • because of the thick and waxy outer layer of the bacteria, it holds onto the red dye that they stain it with and that is how they identify it is myobacterium tuberculosis

  • a bacillus is just a name for a bacteria that is rod shaped

  • the bacteria grows very slowly so it takes a longer time for the bacteria to multiply and build up to overwhelm your lungs and your immune system

    • when you initially get infected with the bacteria it takes a long time to feel and have noticeable symptoms

side 3 prevention

  • there is a lot of medicine to take because there is a lot of tuberculosis bacteria that needs to be killed off for complete recovery

    • it prevents any tb germs from surviving

    • the infection to start over again

    • becoming drug resistance to treatment
