Formatting Text and Graphics Overview
Document Setup
File Preparation:
Start Microsoft Word and open the file IL_WD_3-3.docx from your data folder.
Save the document as IL_WD_3_FastFacts to ensure you keep the original file intact.
Font Changes:
Select the entire document and change the font to 10-point Garamond.
Margin Adjustments:
Change all four document margins to Narrow (0.5 inches).
Theme Color Selection:
Set the theme colors to Orange Red using the Theme Colors button found on the Design tab.
Title Formatting:
Change the font size of the first line, “Riverwalk Medical Clinic—Fast Facts,” to 14 points.
Adjust the font size of the second line title, “Lyme Disease…,” to 20 points.
Heading Styles:
Format the heading “How ticks spread the disease” by changing its font size to 14 points, applying bold styling, and adding a bottom border.
Utilize the Format Painter tool to copy this format to the subsequent headings: Tick habitat and distribution, Symptoms and signs, Treatment and prognosis, and Protection from tick bites.
Image and Graphic Insertion
Photograph Insertion:
Insert an appropriate online photograph related to Lyme disease.
Filter the search results for photographs in the Online Pictures window to enhance content relevance.
Photograph Enhancement:
Enhance the photograph with corrections, colors, artistic effects, borders, and styles to improve its appeal.
Medical Symbol Creation:
Use circle and cross shapes to create a medical symbol similar to the one depicted in Figure 3-35.
Apply a red fill to the circle and white fill to the cross.
Adjust the shape of the cross using adjustment handles if necessary and group the shapes into a single object.
Position the medical symbol graphic in the top-right corner of the first page.
Document Finalization
Font and Border Adjustments:
Apply font colors throughout the document that complement the selected photograph.
Adjust the colors and styles of the document borders as necessary to maintain consistency.
Footer Addition:
Add your name in the footer section of the document.
Final Proofreading:
Examine the document carefully for any formatting errors and make necessary adjustments to ensure professionalism.
Resize the photograph proportionally to 2.5 inches wide, wrap text around the image, and position it to the left of the “How ticks spread the disease” heading so that all text fits on a single page.
Document Submission:
Save the flyer and submit it to your instructor. Exit the Word application after ensuring everything is properly saved.
Image Credit Line Removal:
If applicable, remove any credit line box from the inserted image to maintain a clean presentation.
