kidneys-

what is the liver function that links these 3 pictures together?

absorb paracetamol

pass through alcohol

deamination is liver function where toxic waste is produced. Explain this function:

the production of bile is another liver function

kidneys-

they filter out all the bad stuff down to the bladder ready for excretion.

blood supply to the kidneys-

once oxygen in the blood has been used by nephrons it replaces it with waste product, known as carbon dioxide.

this is now deoxygenated blood.

the working units are known as nephrons.

the renal vien will take deoxygenated blood back to the heart and into the lungs

there are thousands of neuphrones in the medulla, the medulla is surrounded by the cortex.

convoluted

 kidnesy: there role is to

  • remove poisoness waste

  • control water levels

  • control salt levels

  • control blood levels

all happen in the medulla

filtration of blood and toxic waste-

  • step one - after deamination and detoxification in the liver urea is transported in the blood here.

  • step two- the glomeruslus and bowmans capusle act as. a filter because

  • the blood pressure is high

  • the capillaries narrow

  • plasma is forced out of the capillary walls into the bowmans capsule (filtering process)

  • Plasma takes waste (urea) water and nutirents with it

  • known as ultrafilteration

  • step three-urea then makes its way down through the loop henle and into the collecting duct before it exits the nephron

  • once the neuphrones have succesfully filtered the waste products into the cortex tget exit via the collecting ducts in the medulla.

  • collecting ducts pass urea into the calyx and onto the ureter.
