  1. What are pixels? What does “pixelized” or “pixilated” refer to?

 Tiny squares of colors that form an image. Pixelized/pixilated means that the pixels of an image are clearly visible.

  1. What are the main attributes of a composite image?

 Combining images to create a new image.

  1. What does flattening do to an image?

 Combines all the layers into one layer.

  1. What is image resolution?

 The quality and detail of an image. More pixels is higher quality.

  1. How is the crop tool different from the rectangular marquee?

 The crop tool adjusts the entire image while the rectangular marquee is more adjustable. 

  1. What tools are used to make selections?

 Quick selection, lasso, magic wand, marquee tools, selection brush, object selection

  1. How do you unlock a layer?

 Click the lock button when selecting a layer.

  1. What selection tool will allow you to select all of the same value with only one click?

 Object selection tool

  1. How does tolerance affect the magic wand?

 Tolerance makes the magic wand select less in the image.

  1. What happens when you select inverse?

 It selects the area outside of the selected subject matter.

  1. What does depth of field refer to? 

Distance changes the sharpness of subject(s) in an image.

  1. What are the three levels within a photo that can be adjusted within the histogram? (basic photo editing)

 Histogram shows shadows, midtones, and highlights of an image.

  1. What is exposure? What are the three main components of the Exposure triangle?

 Exposure is how much light can be let into the picture. Aperture, shutter, and ISO are a part of the exposure triangle.

  1. What is shutter speed? When do you need a faster shutter speed?  Slower shutter speed?

 Shutter speed is how fast the camera takes the photo. You need a faster shutter speed if you’re photographing something moving quickly, like an athlete. You need a slower shutter speed if you want to get more details when photographing in dark areas.

  1. What is aperture?

 Controls how much light reaches the sensor on a camera.

  1. What is the difference between TV and AV when using camera modes?

 TV is when the user manually chooses shutter speed. AV is when the user manually chooses the aperture.

  1. What is a contact sheet?  Why is it useful?

 A page that shows images. It’s useful because it can allow viewers to quickly view many small versions of photos at once. 

  1. Tripods:  What are the advantages?…

Advantages of using tripods is that they keep the camera still, allow long exposure photography, and can take photos at difficult angles.

Disadvantages?….

Disadvantages of using tripods is that it is inconvenient to change locations

  1. What does contrast do to an image? How does the image change when contrast is increased?

 Contrast controls the range of light and dark tones in an image. When contrast is increased, dark tones get darker and bright tones get brighter.

  1. Explain how feathering in photoshop helps you when you are editing parts of a photo for light.

Feathering avoids harsh lines on your selection, which can occur when you edit an image to a different brightness.

  1. What are the 8 elements of composition?  Be able to define them and describe them in a photo.

  1. Rule of thirds: Subject is placed off center in an area where the grid lines intersect

  2. Clear center of interest: subject is clearly identified in a photo, stands out a lot

  3. Framing: Natural frame is around subject matter, adds emphasis

 4.Filling the frame: Photo is taken very close to the subject, leaving little/no background 

  1. Repitition: Repeats elements in a composition, such as lines or shapes

  2. Leading lines: Photo is taken on an angle, or has lines leading your eyes to a subject

 7. Visual perspective: Showing a sense of space or distance in a composition

  1. Depth of field: Distance changes the sharpness of different elements in an image

  1. Composition: Arrangement of subject matter

What element(s) is being utilized to enhance the impact of the photo?

Elements utilized are typically lighting aspects to focus on the subject matter. The position of the subject also changes the impact, and shows the importance of each object.

  1. Lighting/Technical Aspects:Color, Contrast, depth of field, saturation etc.

These aspects are the most important part of a photo, as it can change the entire tone or look of the image. 

  1.  Overall Mood/Impact

Mood can be changed through various techniques such as color and subject placements. This changes the impact of how an image is viewed by the viewer.
