Exodus 34
God tells Moses to cut 2 tablets of stone like the first (bc Moses broke them) so God can write the commandments on them. Then he is to go back to Mt. Sinai to God. As usual, no man can follow him up and no herds can graze before the mountain.
Moses obeys. Getting the 2 new stone tablets and going up the mountain where God down came in the cloud. The Lord passed Moses and told him everything that he is. Showing mercy to the 1000s that repented and forgiving their wrongdoings. But this does not clear the sinners if they reject him, those who reject him will deal with punishments all through their generations.
Moses quickly bows and worships. Asking that if he has found grace in the Lord’s eyes, let him be among the people since they’re so stubborn. Forgive them of what they’ve done and lead them to the promised land.
God makes a new covenant that he will do miracles before the people that have not been seen before. He says he will drive out the other tribes and to be careful so that they don’t make covenants with them as they leave so they don’t get ensnared in the culture. They are to destroy altars, break images, and cut down groves left behind by the tribes. They will only worship the Lord as God. These tribes have sexual connections to their gods and should they invite you to eat their sacrifice and you do; your son marrying their daughter will cause your son to whore out to their gods as well. And, of course, do not make molten gods for themselves (golden calf).
Keep the feast of Unleavened Bread of course. Continue sacrificing the first, rest on the 7th day, keep the other 2 feasts. God says he will cast out the tribes and enlarge the borders, no man will want their land during theses feasts where God appears to them. They’re not to offer up leavened bread of course and don’t leave any Passover feasts until morning. Don’t boil a kid in his mother’s milk.
God tells Moses to write all this down. Moses does and stays with God for 40 days and nights, fasting the whole way. Finishing the 2nd ten commandments. He eventually comes back down and Aaron and the others see he is basically shining with his skin, unbeknownst to him. Shiny enough for them to be afraid to approach.
Moses calls the congregation to him and they talk before he gives them the Lord’s commandments. Moses had a veil the whole time I guess as not to scare them. But he takes it off when speaking with the Lord. When he comes back out, he puts
