Page 3: Overview of the Assignment
Objective: Engage in small group discussions surrounding a complex issue identified on Mason's Campus. The task involves:
- Formulating a proposed solution to the problem.
- Presenting the group's ideas employing research and persuasive skills.
Process Instructions: Utilize prompts available on Top Hat and seek instructor approval for the chosen topic.
Components of the Assignment:

2. Group Proposal
3. Final Outline
4. Presentation & Q&A
5. Reflection Paper & Group Assessment
Presentation Length: 10-15 minutes, plus an additional 5 minutes for audience questions.
Source Requirement: Each group must gather a minimum of 10 credible sources.
- For each source, the following must be completed:
1. Write an APA formatted reference citation.
2. Compose a one-paragraph summary detailing the key findings of the source.
3. Create a one-paragraph evaluation of the source using the CRAAP test.
- Note: The evaluation should discuss how supporting materials in the source could be beneficial for the group's topic.
- Emphasis on Formatting: Bold the types of supporting materials and the CRAAP test criteria in your evaluation.

Page 5: Group Proposal Submission
Submission Format: Only ONE formal letter will be submitted on behalf of the group.
Citation Requirement: Properly cite at least three sources within the body of the letter.
Review Guidelines: Refer to the Guidelines for Formatting a Formal Business Letter provided on Top Hat for clarity on structure and formatting.

Outline Requirement: The group will submit a comprehensive preparation outline in full sentences.
Outline Structure:

Collaborative Presentation: Group members should collaborate and practice the presentation together to ensure cohesion.
Citation and Supporting Material: During the presentation, orally cite at least 5 sources and include a minimum of 3 different types of supporting material.
Day of Presentation Requirements: Bring the following to class:
- One copy per group of the Deliberative Dialogue Presentation Rubric
- One copy per group of the DD Final Outline
- Flash drive with the PowerPoint presentation file
- One Notecard per person containing a key word outline
- Important Note: Failure to bring any of these materials will lead to a point deduction.

Post-Presentation Task: After completing the presentation, each group member must prepare a reflection paper.
Paper Requirements:
- Length: 2 to 2 ½ pages
- Formatting: Single-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font
- Important Note: Bold all significant course concepts based on Top Hat directions.
Response Requirement: Answer the 5 questions outlined in the Deliberative Dialogue Capstone Assignment file on Top Hat.

Milestones:
- April 16: Deliberative Dialogue Day 1
- Select and explore the problem your group will tackle.
- Decide on collaborative methods (e.g., Canvas discussion board, Google Docs).
- Start the Collaborative Annotated Bibliography.
- April 23: Deliberative Dialogue Day 2
- Submit the Group Annotated Bibliography via Canvas before class.
- Find a solution to the identified problem and draft both the group proposal and presentation. Submit the proposal in Canvas by the end of class.
- April 30: Deliberative Dialogue Presentations
- Submit the Group Final Outline and PowerPoint file through Canvas before class.
- Presentations will last for 10-15 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes for audience questions.
- May 7: Reflection Paper and Group Assessment due by 5 PM, to be uploaded in Canvas.
