Fundamental Duties

- Protection: The LEO must safeguard lives and property.
- Defensive Role: Protecting the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder is paramount.
- Respect for Rights: An LEO is responsible for respecting the constitutional rights of all individuals, focusing on liberty, equality, and justice.
Personal Conduct
- Unblemished Private Life: LEOs must keep their private lives a good example for the public.
- Courageous Calm: LEOs are encouraged to maintain courage and composure when faced with danger, ridicule, or scorn.
- Self-Restraint: Developing and exhibiting self-restraint is deemed essential.
- Welfare of Others: LEOs must consistently be mindful of the well-being of others.
Honesty and Integrity
- Honesty in Thought and Deed: LEOs should be honest in both personal and professional life.
- Law Abidance: Exemplary obedience to the laws of the land and departmental regulations is crucial.
- Confidentiality: Any confidential information learned in an official capacity must be kept secret unless the information is essential for the performance of duties.
Impartiality
- No Personal Influence: LEOs should never act based on personal feelings, prejudices, animosities, or friendships when making decisions.
- Relentless Prosecution: LEOs must prosecute criminals without compromising their values, ensuring that crime is enforced sternly yet appropriately.
- Courteous Law Enforcement: Law enforcement should be carried out with courtesy, without fear or favor, malice, or ill will.
- Prohibition of Unnecessary Force: Unnecessary force or violence should never be employed, and gratuities should never be accepted.
Symbol of Public Trust
- Recognition of Badge: The badge held by LEOs is recognized as a symbol of public faith.
