Proportional Representation
Ontario held a referendum about whether to switch from a first past the post system to a mixed member proportional electoral system
In October 2007, Ontario citizens voted down the idea for potentially having proportional representation
BC also held a referendum on this topic
Mixed Member Proportional Representation is where the people vote both for their political party of choice and an MP to represent their area. In that way, there is a proportionate amount of government officials representing the will of the people
It discourages voter apathy
Can also mean that the party chooses an MLA instead of the people
