Air Force ROTC Study Notes

Introduction

  • Focus on developing leaders of character for the Air Force and Space Force.

AFROTC Program Overview

  • Recruit, educate, and commission officer candidates.

  • Operates at over 145 colleges/universities.

  • Includes classes resembling regular college courses.

Program Structure

  • Credits: Total of 11 credits available during AFROTC

    • 8 Gen Ed Credits

    • 3 Health Credits (KINES 92)

  • Four-Year Program Structure:

    • General Military Course (GMC)

    • AS100 and AS200 focus on heritage, values, team and leadership fundamentals.

    • Professional Officer Course (POC)

    • AS300 and AS400 concentrate on leadership, communication, national security, and commissioning prep.

Field Training

  • Required between sophomore and junior years.

  • Focus on practical application, training, evaluation, and physical conditioning.

  • Upon completion, a Field Training Performance Report (FTPR) is generated.

Scholarships Available

  • High School Scholarships: 4-year scholarships for critical majors.

  • In-College Scholarships: 2-3 year scholarships for freshman/sophomore students.

  • Brig Gen Charles McGee Leadership Award (CMLA): Up to $18K per year.

  • Express Scholarship: For hard-to-fill fields.

Aerospace Studies Classes

  • AS100: Heritage and Values (2 hrs)

  • AS200: Team Leadership and Fundamentals (2 hrs)

  • AS300: Leading People and Effective Communication (3 hrs)

  • AS400: National Security & Preparation for Active Duty (3 hrs)

Leadership Lab

  • Cadet-run program focusing on military skills and preparation for active duty.

  • Physical training twice a week.

Special Programs

  • Includes specialized off-campus learning experiences.

  • Officer Development Training (ODT) for GMC and POC; participation encouraged.

  • Activities include freefall parachute training, glider flights, special warfare training, and symposiums.

Extracurricular Activities

  • Participation in drill team, color guard, and other cadet-led initiatives.
