When the robber stole all the penguin’s food. This made Dougal realize that he had to get out of his comfortable house.

When the plane’s about to take off, it’s because Dougal’s facing his fear.

Character traits

Anxious- Dougal doesn’t trust himself, despite having the ability to fly. He was anxious about the tiniest things. He was scared on the plane, feeling like being judged.

Conflict: person vs self

Dougal struggles to fly because he’s afraid to fly. He was trying to overcome it by flying on a plane, migrate to south for winter.(between anxiety & his need to fly)

Theme

Overcoming Dougal’s fear and finding courage to grow, so he can survive.

Symbol

Flying- Dougal is extremely terrified of flying, it’s not about the physical danger, it represents how fear can stop people from doing something. By flying on the airplane, he didn’t just migrate to the south, he also conquered a part of his fear.

Atmosphere

Fear- it’s not only demonstrated in the title, it’s shown in the story Dougal is afraid to conquer his fears & talk to Lucy.

Lonely- Dougal is not like everyone else, he’s afraid to fly, which makes him an outcast, feeling lonely and sad in the story.

Excited- when Dougal was able to make it to the beach he was excited to see Lucy.
