What happens in each phase of mitosis?

Prophase

In early prophase, the centrosomes have not yet separated, the nuclear envelope is intact and surrounds the chromosomes, and the chromosomes are just beginning to condense.

-Another dramatic event that is characteristic of prophase is nuclear envelope breakdown, or NEB. This is seen here as cells transition from interphase, to prophase and early prometaphase, and finally to metaphase

Metaphase

By the end of prophase, as the cell enters metaphase, the centrosomes have separated and the microtubules have reorganized into a bipolar spindle, nuclear envelope breakdown (or NEB) is complete, and the chromosomes are fully condensed and associating with the microtubules of the spindle

Anaphase

-sister chromatid separation occurs.

-After successful anaphase, the cell prepares to proceed through telophase and exit mitosis. This is accompanied by the decondensation of the chromosomes in each of the newly formed daughter nuclei, as seen in the onion root‐tip cell preparation in the image on the right here. Decondensation is necessary to allow transcription to occur in G1

Telophase

At the end of telophase, the cell reforms a nuclear envelope around each segregated set of daughter chromosomes, the chromosomes decondense, the mitotic spindle is disassembled, and the membranes of the Golgi and ER reassemble

WHAT IS INTERPHASE?
