  • Se + imperfect subjunctive + conditional

  • Se eu ganhasse a lotaria, iria viajar pelo mundo inteiro

• Expression of uncertainty of a fact in the past

  • Ela teria cerca de 20 anos quando os pais partiram para África para trabalhar com uma ONG

• To make invitations

  • Gostarias de vir ao cinema connosco?

• To make suggestions

  • Em vez de comprares este casaco, poderias comprar aquele que é mais barato

• Expressing courtesy/politeness

  • Poderia trazer-me um café, por favor?

Conjugation

• All verbs are regular, except: dizer, fazer, trazer

Pronoun placement with direct and indirect object pronouns

• The same rules for the future are also used in the case of the conditional

  • E.g. future: eu entregarei a encomenda → eu entregá-la-ei

  • conditional: eu entregaria a encomenda → eu entregá-la-ia

• Like in the future, in negative phrases and other contexts, pronouns are placed before the verb

  • E.g. future: eu não telefonarei à Rita → Eu não lhe telefonarei

  • conditional: eu não telefonaria à Rita → Eu não lhe telefonaria
