Basic Sentence Structure

1. Subject + Verb + Object

  • This is the most common order in Spanish sentences.

Example:

  • Yo (subject) como (verb) manzanas (object).

  • Translation: I eat apples.

2. Subject (Sujeto)

  • Who or what the sentence is about.

  • Can be a noun or pronoun.

  • Often, subject pronouns (yo, tú, él, ella, etc.) can be omitted because the verb ending shows who the subject is.

Example:

  • (Yo) hablo español. (I speak Spanish)

  • You can say “hablo español” and it’s understood that “yo” is the subject.

3. Verb (Verbo)

  • The action or state of being.

  • Spanish verbs change (conjugate) depending on the subject and tense.

4. Object (Objeto)

  • The person or thing that receives the action of the verb.
