Our church was established by St Mark the apostle in 61AD.
Coptic Church has the greatest number of martyrs in comparison to any other church who were martyred for their unyielding faith of beliefs that have been maintained without alteration.
Heads of COC have given titles of Pope and Patriarch when they were ordained, however before the 3rd century they were only titled patriarch

FIRST CENTURY
St Mark as the first patriarch
His mother’s house was the place the disciples gathered together and where the Lord celebrated the Passover with the disciples celebrating the first liturgy.
He arrived to Egypt Alexandria in 51AD during the rign of Otho Caesar with a population of people who worshipped idols 12-20 million.
Anianus was appointed bishop along with 3 priests and 7 deacons (65-67AD) before St Mark went to Rome to help Paul.
St Mark was martyred on 30 Paramoute in 68AD on the eve of the feast of ressurection.
House that was converted to Church El-Gishouna which means ‘church of the living’ after St Edauemon was martyred
