Bio 150 - Module 2.2 Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is made up of (Carbon Dioxide, Water, and Light)
This process releases oxygen
almost all organisms receive Energy from the sun
To conduct photosynthesis, you need an organelle called chloroplasts
Structure of a leaf:
The outermost layer of a leaf is the Cuticle. (Protects while also retaining water)
Epidermal cells contain Storma to allow gas exchange
Mesophyll is the middle of the leaf where photosynthesis happens
Chloroplast Structure:
Pigments capture sunlight
Chlorophyl A makes plants green
2 stages of photosynthesis:
Light Dependent Stage - light being captured by pigments in Thylacaid
Light Independent Stage - Happens in Storma (Carbon Fixation)
The Calvin Cycle = (Bring in C02 —→ Use the Energy —→ Make Glucose)
We rely on photosynthesis because it produces oxygen for us
