⛲️ Groups

Group 1 - Alkali Metals

  • Very reactive (need to lose 1 electron)

  • React with water → metal hydroxide (an alkali)

  • More reactive as you go down the group → more shells

LITHIUM:

  • fizzes releasing gas

  • Moves around surface

  • Gets smaller

  • Floats

SODIUM:

  • More fizzing

  • Faster reaction

  • Silver sphere

  • Yellow flame if you stop it from moving

POTASSIUM:

  • Most fizzing

  • Shortest reaction time

  • Burns with a lilac flame

Group 7 - Halogens

  • Greek for salts :D

  • They are DIATOMIC

  • Very reactive

  • less reactive as you go down

  1. metal + hydrogen → metal halide (salt)

  2. Hydrogen + halogen → hydrogen halide

  3. Displacement reactions (for these i think u need the reactivity series)

Group 0 - noble gases

  • Nobility dont do anything

  • Inert → don’t react easily due to full outer shell

    Uses::

→ lighting neon

→ welding argon

→ light bulbs filament
