Causes: 

• Ferdinand was a catholic so he sent representatives to convert protestants back to Catholicism.

Effects

• Ferdinand forced the country back to Catholicism 

• The Dutch using more guns and their recruiting strategy led them to win against the Habsburgs

• The war brought disease, and starvation, which caused people to blame witches for this misfortune 

• The war caused the belief that witches were the causes of what the war had actually caused

• Spain was forced to withdraw its troops because of financial issues. 

• The Netherlands signed the peace of Munster or sum finally ending the 80 years of war I think

• Decline of the Holy Roman Empire because of decentralization and population.
