Section A

Analysing Media Language and Representation [45 marks]

Section A of the Component 1 exam will require you to write about one of the following set products as part of the 30-mark extended response about media representations.

In doing so, you will be required to compare the set product with an unseen audio-visual or print resource in relation to media contexts.

Set Products

Advertising and Marketing:

• Kiss of the Vampire film poster (1963)

• Super. Human. Tokyo 2020 audio-visual advertisement (2020)

• Tide print advertisement (1950s)

Music Videos:

• Daily Mirror, February 1, 2022 front page and article on ‘Partygate’

Section B

Understanding Media Industries and Audiences [45 marks]

Section B of the Component 1 exam will require you to write about two of the following media forms – advertising, marketing, film, newspapers, radio, video games - and media contexts.

It will include:

• one stepped question on media industries

• one stepped question on audiences.
