Class1
Summary of Your First Spanish Slides (Lección Primera)
This lesson is your welcome and introduction to the world of Spanish. It focuses on greetings, geography, and asking your first simple questions.
Key Points:
1. The Main Goal: Introduce Yourself
The core of this lesson is the same conversation we saw in the second lesson, which means you start practicing it right away!
You Learn How To:
Say hello: ¡Hola! ¡Buenos días!
Ask for a name: ¿Cómo te llamas (tú)?
Ask where someone is from: ¿De dónde eres (tú)?
Ask what someone does: ¿A qué te dedicas (tú)?
Ask for more details: ¿Eres profesor de qué? (Are you a professor of what?)
Say "nice to meet you": ¡Mucho gusto!
2. Geography is Your Practice Tool
You use countries and cities to practice making sentences.
Key Verb: ESTAR (to be - for location)
Affirmative Sentence:
China está en Asia.(China is in Asia.)Negative Sentence:
Nigeria no está en Asia.(Nigeria is not in Asia.)This is your first look at how to make a sentence negative—you just put
noin front of the verb.
3. How to Ask Your First Questions
This is a huge first step! You learn two types of questions:
Yes/No Questions (Pregunta Absoluta):
Formula: Start with the verb.
Example: ¿Está China en América? (Is China in America?)
How to Answer: Sí, China está en Asia. OR No, China no está en América.
"Wh-" Questions (Pregunta Pronominal):
The Word: ¿Dónde? (Where?)
Formula: ¿Dónde + está + [place]?
Example: ¿Dónde está China? (Where is China?)
How to Answer: China está en Asia.
4. Pronunciation and Spelling
Just like in the second lesson, this is emphasized early because it's so important.
The alphabet is presented again. This is your key to speaking and understanding.
You practice by spelling names and learning how to say country names in Spanish (e.g., Brasil, Francia, India).
5. How the Class Will Work
The slides give you a roadmap for the course:
It's practical: Focus is on speaking, listening, and practice (drills), not just memorizing rules.
The pattern: Warm-up -> Review -> New Vocabulary -> Grammar -> Practice.
Grading: Based on homework, classwork, exams, and special projects.
Your "Cheat Sheet" for Lesson 1
