Notes on Learning's Right and Left Hand Rules
Learning's Right Hand Rule
Definition: The Right Hand Rule is a mnemonic used to determine the direction of the induced current in a generator due to electromagnetic induction.
Usage: Remember that the Right Hand Rule applies specifically to generators.
Steps to Apply Right Hand Rule:
Extend your right hand: Position your thumb, index, and middle finger so that they are mutually perpendicular.
Thumb: Represents the direction of the motion of the conductor within the magnetic field (conductor's velocity).
Index Finger: Indicates the direction of the magnetic field (from North to South).
Middle Finger: Will show the direction of the induced current (flow of charge).
Example of Application: If the conductor moves to the right in a magnetic field pointing into the page, then the induced current will flow upwards (based on the orientation of the fingers).
