Science : Rock & Rock cycle

Rock cycle :

magma - igneous rock - sediments - sedimentary rocks - metamorphic rock - magma

  • begins with magma, which is molten rock found beneath the Earth's surface

  • When magma cools and solidifies, it forms igneous rocks

  • igneous rocks could also melt back into magma

  • These rocks can be found in various forms such as granite, basalt, or obsidian.

  • Over time, weathering and erosion break down igneous rocks into sediments

  • These sediments can be transported by wind, water, or ice

  • Through compaction and cementation, these sediments become sedimentary rocks. Examples of sedimentary rocks include sandstone, limestone, and shale.

  • sedimentary rocks and igneous rocks can both become metamorphic rocks when under heat and pressure

  • both sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks turn into sediments when weathering and erosion happens

  • metamorphic rocks can also melt into magma
