(self-worth)

It is how we feel about ourselves, and is often based on what we think other people think of us. It is an awareness of our worth as a person.

  • A person’s self-worth can be increased or destroyed by the different relationships he or she has with others and by the influence of external factors such as TV and magazines.

Self-knowledge and Self-esteem are closely related. Self-awareness is the way we view ourselves, think about and feel about ourselves. It is recognition of our own emotions, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It’s about our ability to recognize our strengths and weaknesses and make choices and make decisions based on these abilities.

Self-respect

How much you like yourself. It’s how you feel about yourself and how good or successful you think you are.

It may refer to:

  • how much you like yourself, consider and appreciate yourself

  • how much self-confidence you have and how much you believe in yourself.

How you improve yourself

This is how you:

  • Build your strengths

  • Improve your weaknesses

  • Develope your life skills

  • Becoming the best person you can be

Is to believe in yourself

  • Belief in your abilities, qualities and judgment

  • To take on new things, make decisions, and to face your fears, even if you are unsure of the outcome.

Factors that influence a teenager’s self-awareness:

Many factors or things influence they way you look at yourself. The factors have a bearing on how much you love yourself and how well you know yourself.

These factors influencing you self-awareness includes:

  • What other people say about you

  • Whats happening in your life

  • How well you handle the difficult things in your life.

  • Your reaction to success and failures

  • How popular you think you are; and how much you think your friends love you

  • How your family, friends, and other important people in your life treat you; they may build your self-respect if they support and praise you, or break down your self-respect if they only say negative things about you.

  • The media, newspapers, magazines, TV, social media, e.g., Facebook, WhatsApp, etc,. can also have a huge impact

  • They way you were raised by your parents (including your culture, religion, values, etc.)

  • Things you experience growing up

  • Comparing yourself to others

  • Your achievements and your successes in things you do. (being praised or acknowledged for things)

  • Failure in things you do (criticism you may recieve)

  • They way you look (body image and physical apprearance)

  • Your support system in your life

  • The media, magazines TV, and social media
