outgroup females typically seen as less of a threat than outgroup males
if female does engage in inter-group conflict, she will likely be harmed, which reduces contact between females & outgroup males

origins of conflict can arise from different factors, such as:
competition for resources
categorization - formation of ingroup vs outgroup
prejudice & discrimination
individuals in ingroup seeking conflict in order to improve their social identity (establish themselves as important in the group, in order to gain more attention)
conflict resolution
contact hypothesis - in order to reduce conflict between groups, they should be brought face-to-face with each other
there are different conditions that have to be met in order to reduce hostility:
social & institutional support - should be help from ppl with power in order to support the newly suggested policies
high acquaintance potential - groups should frequently meet & for long periods of time
equal status between groups - groups should hv equal status
cooperation - groups should be willing to work together to come to a conclusion
