The circle

Circle and Its Parts

  • Circle → A round shape. All points are the same distance from the center.

Parts:

  1. Center → The middle point of the circle.

  2. Radius → Line from the center to the edge of the circle. (The plural of it is radii)

  3. Diameter → Line across the circle, passing through the center (2 × radius).

  4. Chord → A line joining two points on the circle (doesn’t have to pass through the center).

  5. Circumference → The boundary or edge of the circle.

  6. Arc → A part of the circle’s circumference.

  7. Sector → A “slice” of the circle, made by two radii and an arc (like a pizza slice).

  8. Segment → The part between a chord and the arc above it.

  9. Tangent → A line that just touches the circle at one point.
