Required practical 5
For a Regular Solid (e.g., a cube)
Measure the mass using a digital balance.
Measure the dimensions (length, width, height) using a ruler or micrometer.
Calculate volume.
Apply the density formula.
For an Irregular Solid (The Displacement Method)
Measure the mass of the object using a balance.
Fill a Eureka can (displacement can) with water until it is level with the spout.
Place a measuring cylinder under the spout.
Lower the object into the water; the volume of the displaced water collected in the cylinder equals the volume of the object.
Apply the density formula.
For a Liquid
Place an empty measuring cylinder on a balance and zero (tare) it.
Pour a specific volume of the liquid into the cylinder
Record the mass shown on the balance.
Apply the density formula.
