MATH TERMS

  • Fibonacci Sequence was named after Leonardo of Pisa (Fibonacci— meaning the son of Bonacci)

  • Harmonic sequence: a sequence whose reciprocals form an arithmetic sequence

  • Harmonic mean: the reciprocal of the arithmetic mean of the denominator by the harmonic sequence

  • Harmonic series: the sum of the terms of a harmonic sequence

  • Geometric sequence: a sequence where a number R, called the common ratio exists such that multiplying the previous term by our results in the next term

  • Geometric series: the sum of the term terms of a geometric sequence

  • Infinite geometric series: the sum of the terms of an infinite geometric sequence

  • Geometric mean : the square root of the product of any two positive numbers a and b

  • Arithmetic sequence: a sequence in which constant, d, is added to the previous term to get the next term

  • Common difference (a.k.a. d) : the constant number being added to each term in an arithmetic sequence

  • Arithmetic series: the sum of the terms of an arithmetic sequence

  • Arithmetic mean: the term(s) between any two terms of an arithmetic sequence

  • Sequence : a function whose domain is the set of positive integers. It also means an ordered list of numbers

  • Infinite Sequence : a sequence whose domain is the set of positive integers

  • Finite Sequence : a sequence whose domain is the set of positive integers for some positive integer n

  • Series: the sum of the terms of a sequence

  • Infinite series: the sum of the terms of an infinite sequence

  • Finite series: the sum of the terms of a finite sequence

  • Sigma notation (or summation notation ∑) : a more concise way to express a partial sum
