BENIGN 

  • The tumor has cells that resemble normal cells of the tissue from which it originated. 

  • The tumor grows by expansion and is usually encapsulated. 

  • Does not cause generalized effects 

  • The tumor does not usually reoccur after treatment 

  • Tumor can cause death if location interferes with vital organ function 

 

MALIGNANt

  • This tumor can grow fast or slow. It is variable and depends on several factors.

  • This tumor can gain access to the blood and lymphatic channels.

  • This tumor causes extensive tissue damage 

  • Tumor can produce substances that can mimic hormones or chemicals secreted by other organs.

The phases of Cancer Development 

  • The first phase is initiation

  • The second phase  is promotion 

  • The third phase progression tumor creates its own blood supply and nutrition
