Animal Farm (1-5)

Chapter 1:

The first chapter starts with all the animals coming in to hear about a dream Major had (he was a pig). Major announces that he won’t be alive for much longer, he tells the other animals that the cause of all their problems is due to man, and they will overthrow the human race one day, though he isn’t aware of when it will happen. Major then asks all the animals if wild animals such as rabbit and rats are their friends, majority voted they are friends. Then Major explains his dream, he dreamt of how the world looked like without man which reminded him of a song his mother used to sing to him long ago, this song was called ‘Beasts of England’.

Chapter 2:

Three days later, Major had passed away and he was buried at the foot of the orchard. Napolean, Snowball, and Squealer turned Major’s into a system called ‘Animism’. They experienced great difficulty teaching the rules of Animism to the other animals due to Moses telling false tales of a place called “Sugarcandy mountain” which he told is where animals would go after they die. In the past few years, Mr. Jones and his men were not taking care of the farm very well and the animals were often left unfed. One-night Mr. Jones was drunk as usual, and his men had not bothered to feed the animals. They could not take it no more and one of the cows broke down the door so the other animals could get in and they began to eat from the bins. This caused Mr. Jones to wake up, he and his men began to whip the animals, This was too much for them. The animals attacked Mr. Jones and his men in response which led them to flee the barn. The first thing all the animals did was to check there were no more humans hiding anywhere, then they burned everything that reminded them of Mr. Jones on fire (Stuff such as bows and hats). The next day, the animals went into the farm buildings, They found some pieces of ham and buried it outside but other than that, the farm was left untouched. Right before the harvest begun the cows seem a bit distressed, this was because they had not been milked for 24 hours. The pigs milked the cows but after the other animals wondered what they would do with the milk, Napoleon told them they will deal with it later. After the harvest was done for the day, the animals noticed that the milk was gone.

Chapter 3:

The animals worked hard and in the end their efforts were rewarded, the harvest was finished in 2 days less time and it was the biggest harvest they’ve had in years. Boxer out of all of them worked the hardest and his motto was ‘I will work harder’. The animals were happier and none of the animals stole, had jealousy or quarreled unlike the old days. On Sundays there was no work and breakfast was an hour later, First thing in the ceremony was the hoisting of the flag which was made from a green tablecloth and had a hoof and horn painted on it. After the hoisting of the flag all the animals went into the big barn for a general assembly, here the work of the week was planned and resolutions were put out and debated. The pigs set aside the harness room for themselves, this is where they studied blacksmithing, carpeting ect… Snowball attempted to create the animals committee where he would teach different things to the animals (One of them was the Re-education committee where he attempted to tame wild animals), Unfortunately most of them were failures but the reading and writing classes were a big success. Some other animals had trouble learning all the commandments so it was simplified to “Four legs good, two legs bad” and the sheep grasped it fairly quickly. Napoleon wasn’t interested in Snowball’s committees and said teaching the young was more important, Jessie and Bluebelle(the dogs) had both given birth to 9 puppies, Napolean took the puppies and said he would be responsible for their education and kept them in a loft for so long the other animals forgot about their existence. Later, the animals found out that all the milk was going into the pigs mash and the apples were requested to be reserved for only the pigs. Squealer explained to the other animals that this was to keep the pigs in good health and if they weren’t Jones would come back.

Chapter 4

By the summer the news of what happened on animal farm had spread all across the country, Snowball and Napoleon would send out pigeons to spread the story of animal farm and teach them ‘Beasts of England’. The owner of Foxwood, Mr. Pilkington and the owner of Pinchfeild Mr.Frederick were both frightened by the rebellion. At first, they pretended not to care saying the animals would all starve in two weeks, but when they didn’t end up starving the men started stories saying The animals practiced cannibalism and tortured each other, Though these rumors were never truly believed. Rebellions happened all across the country and the animals would sing ‘beasts of England’. One day In October Jones and his men along with others from Foxwood and Pinchfeild approached animal farm with the intent of reclaiming it. This had been expected, and the animals had already made preparations.
