finishing polymers
the majority of polymers are self finishing and can be left how they are after processing. the pieces can also have a texture applied when forming , they are also self colouring as the pigment is added before it is processed (normally in granular form). colour is normally used for aesthetics and the fine pigment powder is added before a stock form is produced, polymers can also be made clear or thermochromic
polymers can be polished and textured for aesthetics but gel coats can also be added for colour

METHODS
thermochromic pigments - these are added to polymers to make them a smart material that changes colour depending on the temperature, you can also use irreversible colour change for identifying danger. this can be used for novelty, measuring temperature or safety such as in baby cups and spoons
phosphorescent pigments - these pigment make polymers change colour in reaction to light levels, these can be used in watches or ceiling stars and are normally used for aesthetics but can be used in fire escape signs, these do not require power to emit light
