How does language work in this text to achieve a range of different purposes? 

My response

    • French → suggests excellence and quality as France is known to produce high-end wine. 

    • Classic font → not just buying the product but also buying into the experience of drinking the wine. A chance to enjoy the social stance & wealth that comes with drinking French wine. 

  • 100% MERLOT” 

    • Hyperbole → The very best & pure to the highest degree 

    • The use of capital letters emphasise the word “MERLOT” which is the grape from which wine is made →suggests that it is refined & authentic.  

    • The use of numbers and symbols → Simple & comprehensible. 

  • “By statesmen, philosophers, poets and scholars” 

    • The wine has been presents throghout historty. 

    • Prestigios jobs that require intellect → persuades the reader to purchase the wine as people who have these jobs tend to be more wise and knowledgable. 

  • “Civilized, romantic & temperate” 

    • Rule of 3 → rthymic pattern of adjectives that wil make it memorisable to the reader. 

  • “Since the beginning of civilization” 

    • Culture & heritage → timeless drink that has been a part of human traditions and social gatherings for a long time.

    • Indicates that there is a market for this wine.

    • Fractual and direct → juxtaposition to the romanticised description of the winde in the first paragraph. 

    • Surgeon general → formal and authorative.
