French 3- l'imparfait and futur simple

L'imparfait = nous form stem + pronoun ending

Endings:

Je - ais Nous - ions

Tu - ais Vous - iez

On - ait Ils - aient

Ex. Je parlais

Irregular verbs (être)

Stem: et

Ex. J’étais

When to use:

• habitual actions

• Ongoing (interrupted) actions

• Descriptions (in the past)

Futur Simple = infinitive verb + avoir endings

Endings:

Je - ai Nous - ons

Tu - as Vous - ez

On - a Ils - ont

Ex. Je parlai

Irregular verbs stem:

être > ser-

Aller > ir-

Avoir > aur-

Faire > fer-

Savoir > saur-

Venir > viendr-

Pouvoir > pourr-

Courir > courr-

Voir > verr-

Vouloir > voudr-

When to use:

• Conditional statements ( if)

• distant future

• after expressions of time (tomorrow, when, as soon as, etc)
