Moral Frameworks Introduction
- Making reasonable moral choices requires frameworks. The course introduces students to the profession and practices of professional engineering.
- It highlights the knowledge and skills needed for the engineering profession, relevant acts and regulations, the engineering code of ethics, engineer's roles and responsibilities, and the impact of engineering work on society and the environment.
- The course incorporates study skills, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, decision-making, lifelong learning skills, project planning, teamwork, and leadership applicable to the engineering profession.
- Effective technical writing and speaking development in the context of academic and professional engineering will also be provided.
- Students will be exposed to the accreditation and internationalization of engineers, aspects of Engineering Accreditation (EAC), and the Washington Accord in engineering education of higher learning institutions.
What is an Engineer? (General Definition)
- An engineer is a practitioner of engineering who invents, designs, analyzes, builds, and tests machines, systems, structures, and materials.
- Engineers accomplish objectives and requirements while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, and cost.
- The work of engineers forms the link between scientific discoveries and their subsequent applications to human and business needs and also quality of life.
What is an Engineer? (Definition According to Malaysia’s Law)
- Specified under the Registration of Engineer Act 1967 (revised 2015).
- A person who performs Engineering Works – all mean of works which include any publicly and privately owned public utilities, buildings, machines, equipment, processes, works, or projects that require the application of engineering principles and data.
