Correspondence Theory: Truth is determined by how accurately it reflects observed reality

A statement is true if it corresponds to facts.

Based on the relationship of statements and the world as we perceive and measure it

Coherence Theory: Truth is determined by the coherence of a set of beliefs or statements

  • A statement is true if it fits well within a consistent system of beliefs

  • Emphasizes logical consistency and mutual support among beliefs

Pragmatist Theory: Truth is determined by the practical consequences of a belief or statement.

• Emphasizes utility and practical outcomes

  • A statement is true if it works or has practical effects
