Gluconeogenesis & Fermentation
Gluconeogenesis
gluconeogenesis = “sugar + new + creation”
The “reverse” process of glycolysis
There are three detours that occur at steps 1,3, and 10 because there is a large negative delta g so the reverse cannot occur
Anabolic reaction (more energetically expensive than catabolic reactions)
Glycolysis = catabolic reaction
Glycolysis occurs in all cells
Gluconeogenesis does not occur in all cells, occurs mostly in the liver cells (most glucose is stored in the liver)
