Gluconeogenesis & Fermentation

Gluconeogenesis

  • gluconeogenesis = “sugar + new + creation”

  • The “reverse” process of glycolysis

  • There are three detours that occur at steps 1,3, and 10 because there is a large negative delta g so the reverse cannot occur

  • Anabolic reaction (more energetically expensive than catabolic reactions)

  • Glycolysis = catabolic reaction

  • Glycolysis occurs in all cells

  • Gluconeogenesis does not occur in all cells, occurs mostly in the liver cells (most glucose is stored in the liver)
