PCT- IV

Child Weight Calculation

  • A formula to estimate a child's weight:

    • Age in years × 2 + 10 = Weight in kilograms

    • For a 3-year-old:

      • 3 × 2 = 6

      • 6 + 10 = 16 kg

Blood Pressure Considerations

  • Hypotension and Normal Blood Pressure for a Child:

    • Hypotensive blood pressure threshold: 70 + Weight in kg

    • For a 3-year-old weighing 16 kg:

      • 70 + 16 = 86 mmHg

      • Thus, systolic blood pressure < 86 mmHg indicates hypotension

    • Systolic blood pressure ≥ 86 mmHg indicates normotension.

Normal Blood Pressure Calculation for Child

  • Normal blood pressure for children:

    • Formula: 90 + (2 × Age in years)

    • For a 3-year-old:

      • 90 + (2 × 3) = 90 + 6 = 96 mmHg

      • Hence, a normal systolic blood pressure for a 3-year-old is 96 mmHg.

Summary

  • A 3-year-old child weighs approximately 16 kg.

  • Hypotension is defined at a systolic blood pressure of less than 86 mmHg.

  • Normal blood pressure for the same child is approximately 96 mmHg.
