7.9 Pectoral Girdle

each pectoral, girdle, or shoulder girdle, is composed of two parts- an anterior bone called the clavicle, and a scapula on the posterior portion
it is open in the back between the scapula, and the sternum separates its bones in front
Clavicle
The clavicle is a cylinder, rod like bone with an elongated S shape
A clavicle is located at the base of the neck as part of each of the pectoral girdle’s
The clavicles brace, the freely, movable scapular, helping to hold the shoulders in place
they also provide attachments for muscles of the upper limbs, chest, and back
The clavicle is structurally weak because of it and long gated double curve
Scapula
The scapula is a broad, somewhat triangular bone located on each side of the upper back
the acromion process articulates with the clavicle and provides attachment for muscles of the upper limb and chest
the coracoid process also provides attachments for upper limb and chest muscles
the glenoid cavity articulates with the head of the humerus
