Passive vs Active Immunity

Passive

When pathogens enter the body, white blood cells in the body will begin to produce antibodies. These anibodies only attack specific pathogenic microbes unless they are closely related.

Immunity refers to the body’s ability to produce antibodies.

There are 2 types of Active Immunity : Active Natural & Active Acquired

Active Natural refers to our natural / inborn ability to produce antibodies

Active Acquired refers to immunity required throughout life.

How it occurs :

A person gets ill, so antibodies are then produced to fight against the disease. The person then recovers, and the antibodies remain in the body so that in future when the person falls ill with a similar disease the antibodies are immediately present to fight back. This gives the person acquired immunity due to the initial infection.

Response of Pathogenic Organisms entering the Host

Upon entering, the pathogen will begin to rapidly reproduce. This is to make as many copies as possible that at least a few parasites survive the host’s natural immunity. However, not all copies will be identical, as some will have been mutated as to survive the host’s immunity.
