• france + germany: massive armies

• britain + germany: massive navies

• EU countries has universal conscription (mandatory military service)

• males between 20-40 had to serve in the military (how they gained so much soldiers)

alliance system

• triple entente: UK, FRANCE & RUSSIA

• triple alliances: GERMANY, AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN & OTTOMAN EMPIRE

imperialisim

• building of empires in EU countries

• britain + France were the first countries to have an empire (britain having the biggest one in the entire world)

• germany + italy wanted to have an empire as well, causing EU countries conflict, trying to steal each other’s land.

nationalisim

• showing strong support for your country

• having willingness to fight for said country

• this made different groups in europe want to make their own countries
