Institutional discrimination: Unfair treatment of an individual or group at a work place, company or school. Ex: a company refuses to hire anyone that has an asian ethnicity.

Unequal opportunity: BIPOC are at an unfair disadvantage compared to everyone else when it comes to what jobs they’re hired for and their median income.

Affirmative action: is a set of policies and practices within a government or organization seeking to benefit marginalized groups. Ex: Many universities and institutions offer scholarships to BIPOC help those who are in need of financial aid.

Some argue that past racism is the cause for unequal opportunities, and say that giving BIPOC more offers for scholarships or saving job openings and opportunities for them is current day racism and doesn’t help solve the problems because it is discluding white people and other majority races.

Some argue that affirmative action is good because it helps those who are struggling from the actions of people in the past who have repressed and prevented groups of people from being financially stable or in a good spot, they believe that compensation such as scholarships or job opportunities can help make up for the struggle and displacement.

Richard and Mildred Loving, a couple from 1958, were married for five weeks while interracial marriage was not legal. They were caught, Richard a white man was set on bond for $1000, while mildred was sent to jail for 3 days. When at court the judge offered them a deal, to exile their state of virginia for 25 years, or go to prison, they both left virginia.
