Identity
- Identity is made up of physical characteristics, skills, attributes, and self-perception.
- Factors that can change identity: relationships, past experiences, media, goals, culture.
- Family, friends/peers (peer pressure), school, laws, culture/religion, media, self-esteem.
Peer Pressure
- Influence of others on behavior and actions (can be positive or negative).
- Examples: risky situations, clothing choices, activities.
Self-Esteem
- How people feel about themselves, impacting their identity.
- Low self-esteem: can lead to weak sense of identity and susceptibility to influence.
- Media influences through advertisements and societal pressures.
- Media images can create unrealistic expectations related to happiness and acceptance.
- Shapes stereotypes, values, and body image.
- Can create false identities and body image issues by presenting unrealistic ideals.
