Doolittle’s Raiders

  • America wanted revenge after Pearl Harbor. Colonel James Doolittle led a squad of bombers to Japan and dropped bombs on industrial and military facilities.

  • Although there was no significant damage, it destroyed Japanese morale and proved they were vulnerable.


Importance of Battle of Midway

  • Japan wanted to take more control of the Pacific by establishing bases, so they can have an advantage over the U.S. But American code breakers discovered their plan and launched an attack. 

  • Japan was determined to seize Midway Island. Although they outnumbered the U.S. fleet, America was one step ahead with their intelligence code breakers.







Rape of Nanjing

  • After defeating Russia, it was clear that Japan is becoming a bigger threat. But it lacked land and natural resources. Tojo Hideki turned to China to conquer and build a new empire.

  • Eventually, Japan controlled all of Northern China, where they committed horrific war crimes in Nanjing, killing 300,000 people.


Japanese Internment 

  • After Pearl Harbor, Japanese citizens in America were considered enemies. FDR signed Executive Order 9066 in 1942, forcing all Japanese-American citizens in internment camps.

  • A symbol of female empowerment during WWII.

  • She represented the women who took jobs and manufactured equipment for WWII.

  • The invention of the atomic bomb was a game changer for the development of weaponry. The atomic bomb is what caused Japan to surrender and the USA to win.

  • The Allies were far superior in producing weapons and equipment for their militaries. This gave them an edge over the Axis powers, who were slowly losing resources as the war progressed.
