Definition - A resource is everything available in our environment which can be used to satisfy our needs provided that it is technologically accessible , economically feasible and culturally acceptable.

Interactive Relationship - Humans interact with nature through technology and create institutions to accelerate the development of resources and efficiency.

Development of Resources

Resource planning and development has become essential for sustained quality of life and global peace. There is a need of resource development and planning for the sustainable existence of all life forms. For years humans have used life forms indiscriminately which has led to the following problems.   1. Depletion of resources to satisfy the need of a few individuals

  2. Accumulation of resource with few people creating divide between the rich and the poor

  3. Exploitation of resources leads to global ecological crisis like global warming and pollution

Sustainable Development , IES and Agenda 21

Definition of Sustainable Development - Sustainable development means that development should take place without damaging the environment , and development in the present should not compromise the needs of the future generations.

Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit 1992

  1. Meeting with over 100 heads of state and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil

  2. Focused on combatting urgent problems of environmental protection and socio-economic development

  3. Signed the Declaration on Global Climatic Change and Biological Diversity

  4. The Rio Convention endorsed global forest Principles and adopted Agenda 21 for achieving sustainable development in the 21st century.

Agenda 21

  1. Was signed in 1992 and the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development for focusing on sustainable development in the 21st century.
