Depression and League of Nations
Depression caused a number of events to happen that made the League’s work very difficult:
- countries wanted to trade, and needed new markets and raw materials- often through colonisation e.g Japan through Manchuria.
- People lost their jobs and often turned to extreme parties who were often nationalist in nature e.g nazis
- These parties are usually militaristic and built up their armed forces.
- League members lacked the money to deal with aggressors.
- There was a reluctance to impose economic sanctions as countries wanted to maintain existing trade relationships.
