Skeletal Anatomy

Skull Bones
Parietal → Forms the top and sides of the skull
Frontal → Forehead bone; forms the front part of the skull
Temporal → Side of the skull; houses structures of the ears
Occipital → Back of the skull; contains the foramen magnum
Nasal → Small bones that form the bridge of the nose
Maxilla → Upper jaw bone; contains upper teeth
Mandible → Lower jaw bone; only movable skull bone
Sphenoid → Butterfly-shaped bone that forms part of the base of the skull
Zygomatic → Cheekbone; connects to the maxilla and temporal bone
Lacrimal → Small bone in the inner eye socket; helps form the tear duct
Ethmoid → Light, spongy bone that forms part of the nasal cavity and orbits
Palatine → Forms part of the hard palate (roof of the mouth)
Vomer → Forms part of the nasal septum

Sutures
Coronal → Separates the frontal and parietal bones
Squamous → Separates the temporal and parietal bones
Occipitomastoid → Connects the occipital and temporal bones
Lambdoid → Separates the occipital and parietal bones
Sagittal → Separates the left and right parietal bones
Medial Palatine → Separates the two palatine bones
Frontonasal → Connects the frontal bone to the nasal bones

Vertebral Column
Intervertebral Disc → Cushioning pad between vertebrae
Cervical Curvature (Concave) → Neck region (C1-C7)
Thoracic Curvature (Convex) → Upper back region (T1-T12)
Lumbar Curvature (Concave) → Lower back region (L1-L5)
Sacrum (Convex) → Triangular bone at the base of the spine
Coccyx → Tailbone, small fused vertebrae

Thoracic Cage
Jugular Notch → Indentation at the top of the sternum
Clavicular Notch → Area where the clavicle meets the sternum
True Ribs (1-7) → Directly attached to the sternum
False Ribs (8-12) → Indirectly or not attached to the sternum
Floating Ribs (11-12) → Not attached to the sternum at all
Manubrium → Upper portion of the sternum
Sternal Angle → Ridge where the manubrium meets the body of the sternum
Body → Main part of the sternum
Xiphoid Process → Small cartilage tip at the bottom of the sternum
