Part 1 - Introduce yourself:  My name is Ursus Maritimus, but I go by Polar Bear.

Part 2 - Characteristics

• Black skin and transparent fur

• Appears white by reflecting light

• Primarily carnivore and apex predator

• Incredible sense of smell

• Live for about 25 to 30 years

Part 3 - Original location: Arctic sea ice environments

Part 4 - What are your turn-ons/offs – how do you impact other species and the environment

• Turn-ons: Regulates seal populations, creates a link between marine and terrestrial ecosystems, indicator species.

• Turn-offs: dangerous encounters with humans, consuming trash, carcasses can release harmful contaminants into the ecosystem, disturbing local species.

• Agreement on the Conservation of Polar Bears

• Marine Mammal Protection Act

• The world’s largest land carnivores, with males weighing up to 1700+ lbs

• Eat up to 100 lbs of seal blubber in one sitting, which allows them to fast for months
